Grecian Gold Necklace - By: Danielle Netko
Author: Danielle Netko
Materials
- Gold leaf
- White clay
- Scrap clay
- Head or T pins
- Pasta machine
- Cutting blade
- Oven preheated to 275 degrees
Instructions
- Roll the sheet of white clay to #4, put the gold leaf on, and roll to #1 to get the crackled look.
- Roll your scrap clay into small balls and cover them with strips of the white and gold sheet.
- Leave half of the balls just balls, but with the other half, stick them onto head/t pins and roll them out while on the pins so the hole gets bigger and they elongate. Roll them to 1 inch long.
- Slide the long beads off of the pins and bend them slightly, placing them right beside one another so they take on the same curve.
- Bake all beads, and thread them onto the necklace first a round bead, then a long bead, etc.

This is very pretty. I don’t see any way to fasten this around the neck. You don’t mention any kind of fastener in the list of items needed and you show none in the picture. I’m very new to this art and need things spelled out to understand each step so I don’t ruin my project.
Thanks for your input and I will work on a tutorial for ending a necklace.
I haven’t tried this yet but in reading the instructions you say to run the clay through #4 add the gold leaf and then run it through #1. Shouldn’t this be the other way around since on my machine #4 is three numbers thinner then #1. To me, a novice, it seem that it wouldn’t stretch it in order to crackle the gold leaf if done in that order.
I’m still waiting for your tutorial for ending a necklace.
Tried it and it came out very nice. A couple of suggestions, make sure scrap clay is of light colors or you will have to add extra mixture to cover colors. Mention the number of balls and rolls you will need to make necklace size. I had to figure it out, yours in the picture showed less than you need to make a 15″ necklace.
Ooh, I love the curving tubes. Jody, I don’t know if you’re even going to read this, but a lot of pasta machines are different. Some have number 1 as the thickest setting and some have number 7 as the thickest setting. (Mine is number 7 as thickest) When it doesn’t seem to make sense, just reverse the numbers and you’ll get the proper results.
