Wine Bottle Holder

Here’s an inexpensive gift to make that will be a hit with the wine lover on your list!

Materials
Instructions
  • Spray paint the paper mache wine bottle holder gold.
  • Mix equal portions of purple and white clay to make a light lavender color.
  • Make 1 inch strips of clay long enough to go around the bottom and the top of the holder. Press a stamp or texture sheet into the clay, then attach to the bottle holder.
  • Using the fruit mold, make enough of the grapes and leaves to go around the top of the wine bottle holder.
  • Spray paint the grapes and leaves gold or leave them unpainted in their natural colors.
  • Cover the top of the bottle holder with the stamped or textured clay.
  • Cut the wine themed picture to fit the bottle holder. For this project, two copies ot the same picture were needed in order to cover the whole bottle holder.
  • Spread the translucent liquid sculpey over the picture using your fingers or a foam poly brush. Make sure the liquid clay has been smoothly and evenly applied. Let sit for several minutes, then bake at 275 degrees for 15 minutes.
  • After the clay has baked, the paper on the back of the clay can be peeled off. The easiest way to do this is under running water, the paper will dissolve leaving the picture image on the clay. Spread tacky glue over the bottle holder to prepare for the application of the transferred image.
  • Carefully apply the clay pieces with the transferred images to the bottle holder. Wrap with rubber bands to keep the clay secure while the glue dries.
  • After the glue has thoroughly dried, remove the rubber bands. Use the clay extruder to make twisted snakes of green clay and carefully wrap next to the purple stamped bands. Add some twisted ropes up the side of the bottle holder if desired, then bake at 275 degrees for 20 minutes.
