Doll House Miniature Pictures

For anyone into Miniatures, here’s an idea for making wall pictures for a Doll House using Collage Transfers.

Materials
Instructions
  • Choose one or more Collage Transfer pictures and cut them out. Flatten the white clay with a brayer or Pasta Machine and cut a square about the same size as the pictures. Place the picture face down on the square of clay. Burnish the image with your fingers so there are no air pockets between the clay and the transfer. Bake the clay pieces with the attached transfers for 20 minutes at 275 degrees.
    • I wanted a maghogany shade of clay for the picture frames, so I used this recipe: Make a red-brown clay using 1 part chocolate and 1 part alizarin crimson. Use two parts of the red-brown clay, 1 part black clay and 1 part gold clay.

    • Roll logs out of each of the 4 clay pieces. Roll the four logs together to make one combined log. Fold the combined log in half, and roll again into a log. Continue folding and rolling until you reach the shade you like. Don’t roll so much that the streaks of the different colors disappear.

    • After the pieces from the oven have cooled, dampen the back of the transfer paper with water. When the paper is saturated, blot away any excess water with a tissue or paper towel. Let the transfer sit for about 30 seconds, then carefully lift off the backing paper.

    • Roll a flat piece of the mahogany clay and cut to the size you want for each picture. This will be the back of the picture frame. Lay the baked picture onto the mahogany clay. Cut strips of the mahogany clay and lay across the top and sides of the picture. Trim and cut each strip making the front of the picture frames. Bake the pictures for 20 minutes at 275 degrees.
    • After the pictures have cooled, take a small piece of the mahogany clay and run it down each side of the pictures with your fingers. Use the clay like putty to fill in the cracks and make a smooth finish for the sides of the pictures. Bake the pictures one more time for 10 minutes at 275 degrees.
    • After cooling, spread a layer of Poly-Glaze directly onto the picture. Allow to dry. Apply as many coats as necessary to give the look of glass on your miniature pictures!
