Spiral Flower Cane - By: Korrina Robinson

This cane is very simple and yet the results can be really striking with the right colors. Try it with a black/white/gray color scheme or maybe reds and oranges.

Instructions
  • Roll out pink and light blue clay (on thickest machine setting) to about the same size.

  • Lay the light blue on top of the pink and roll up into a jellyroll cane.

  • Roll out green and off-white clay on thickest setting and fold into a double layer. Cut strips from the end of the clay that are as wide as they are thick.

  • Place the strips around the jellyroll cane, alternating between the two colors. Reduce cane to about 3/4″-1″ diameter.

  • Roll out a log of medium blue clay a little smaller than the center cane and cut into 5 segments about the same length as your center cane.

  • Roll out dark blue clay on thickest setting and use to cover the medium blue logs. Make a slit lengthwise in each log and insert a strip of dark blue clay. Close up the slit and smooth it out.

  • Slightly flatten the blue logs with the dark strips on one side to form the petals. Place them around the center cane. (You may need to adjust the size of the center in order to make them all fit properly without gaps.)

  • Put wedges of off-white clay between the petals and wrap the whole thing in a thick sheet or two of off-white.

  • Reduce to the desired size and slice.
