How to Sand and Buff Polymer Clay - By: Danielle Netko
Author: Danielle Netko
Materials
- 400-1500 grit wet/dry sandpaper
- A piece of worn denim
Instructions
 |
- Starting with the 400 grit sandpaper, sand your piece under running water. 400 is the grit to use to get fingerprints out, so concentrate on those areas. Do the same thing with each grit, working up to 1500. The ones I used were 400, 600, 1000, 1200, and 1500. Dry off your piece.
|
|
 |
- While holding the denim in one hand, hold the piece in the other and rub vigorously against the cloth. Make sure to rub all surfaces evenly.
|
|
 |
- You should get a nice shiny polish.

thank you, new to clay,,,didnt know how,,,books are kinda vague sometimes.
Thank you. Now I need to locate a source for the finer grits of sandpaper. All I can find is up to 400.
Hi there!
Just wanted to let you know that at The Clay Store we are adding several varieties of the very fine grit sandpaper. We’ve just received them and should have them available on the site by this weekend (09/16/06).

I’ve had luck finding the higher grade grits at Walmart in the automotive section. If not there, call around to auto parts stores. According to my husband the higher grits are commonly used in the auto industry.
Try using a nail file to polish clay. You can buy from the toughest grit to buffing nail files. They’re small and easy to handle. You could even cut them in half if you want!! Thank you for your tips and good luck!
Try an Auto Body Paint shop for the very fine grit sand paper
THANK YOU you were very helpful….smile
this technique works especially nice with the translucents giving it depth. good for faux stones.

Thans for this technique. I had been wondering how to do this process.
